kasey54 305 #1 Posted April 21, 2020 I have decided to replace some front tires on a few of my wheel horses. I'd like to buy some of those 4.8 x 8 Dee Stone tri ribs. My question is how wide of a rim will they Mount on reasonably? I think they would be fine on most of the older ones(RJ's Suburbans, Electro 12's 701's), but is replacing the 7 inch tires with them, going too far? Was wondering about B series , but really don't want to have to hunt down narrower rims.
953 nut 60,301 #2 Posted April 21, 2020 They are intended for 3 3/4" to 4" wide rims. If you mounted them on a 7" rim I'm afraid you wouldn't be pleased. https://www.millertire.com/products/lawn-garden-tires/4-00-8/4-00-8-deestone-3-rib-front-4-ply/ Largest selection of hard to find tires and wheels Search 419-335-7010 0 Home Lawn/Garden Tires 4.80-8 4.00-8 Deestone 3-Rib Front 4 ply Deestone 4.00-8 DEESTONE 3-RIB FRONT 4 PLY $25.00 8 reviews SKU: DS5106 Condition: New Availability: Ships in 1-2 Business Days Shipping: Calculated at Checkout Overall Diameter: 16.7" Overall Width: 4.3" Ply Rating: 4 ply Tube Type Rim Width: 3.75" to 4" Tread Depth: 14/32" Max Load: 435 @ 20 psi
ebinmaine 72,946 #3 Posted April 21, 2020 I'm thinking a 4.80 tire would be ok on a 70s 5 inch rim but may look a bit balloon ish. Later rims that would have had an 8.5 tire may be a bit much.
kasey54 305 #4 Posted April 21, 2020 953 Nut ,Eb ,I agree. Guess i was hoping someone new how wide of rim I could stretch it too. Hoping 6.5 would be acceptable.

I wouldn't hesitate to put one on a mid 70s B/C rim but the later ones could be an issue.

oliver2-44 10,770 #8 Posted April 22, 2020 Remember the Deestone run a little small for their listed size (diameter and width). So going to a significantly wider rim really could be stretching it.
Warning:Unsupervised 82 #9 Posted October 12, 2021 (edited) I just noticed some sites state 435@20lb but Deestone shows them being 349@35lb, anyone know why that is, upgrade these tires by chance? Air-Loc shows theirs at 495lb fwiw? Thanks https://deestonetireusa.com/d401-front-farm/ Edited October 12, 2021 by 123GO to clarify
