Tire question.

Recommended Posts

kasey54

I have decided to replace some front tires on a few of my wheel horses. I'd like to buy some of those 4.8 x 8 Dee Stone tri ribs.

My question is how wide of a rim will they Mount on reasonably? I think they would be fine on most of the older ones(RJ's Suburbans, Electro 12's 701's), but is replacing the 7 inch tires with them, going too far? Was wondering about B series , but really don't want to have to hunt down narrower rims.

953 nut

They are intended for 3 3/4" to 4" wide rims.  If you mounted them on a 7" rim I'm afraid you wouldn't be pleased.

I'm thinking a 4.80 tire would be ok on a 70s 5 inch rim but may look a bit balloon ish.

Later rims that would have had an 8.5 tire may be a bit much.

953 Nut ,Eb ,I agree. Guess i was hoping someone new how wide of rim  I could stretch it too. Hoping 6.5 would be acceptable.

I wouldn't hesitate to put one on a mid 70s B/C rim but the later ones could be an issue.

Remember the Deestone run a little small for their listed size (diameter and width).  So going to a significantly wider rim really could be stretching it.

Warning:Unsupervised

I just noticed some sites state 435@20lb but Deestone shows them being 349@35lb, anyone know why that is, upgrade these tires by chance? Air-Loc shows theirs at 495lb fwiw?  Thanks
