953 nut 60,013 #3 Posted April 21, 2020 I too have a preference for Kohler engines. Going from one brand to another you will end up having to make some changes in your wiring but we will be here to help you with all of that.
rustyiron038 1 #4 Posted April 21, 2020 the kolher k241 has been discontinued what engine would you replace it with
pfrederi 18,670 #5 Posted April 21, 2020 I you are looking for New engine meaning in current production you are going to be looking at fabrication and adjustments.most new engines will not have bal bearings on the crank shaft so you will have to use an Electric PTO or fabricate a thrust bearing There are some thread on here about installing a V twin Predator from Harbor Freight. .. Easiest would be to by a used Kohler K series k241 , 301 321 or 341. Overhaul it and bolt it in.
pacer 3,177 #7 Posted April 21, 2020 Yeah, the Kohler "K" series engines, even tho are no longer made, is the hands down simplest, easiest route to go, There are usually a handful around, like here in our classified or CL, ebay, etc, etc. As Paul mentioned you will have the choice of 4 sizes to choose from and any one is will be a pretty simple changeover - maybe a little wiring & cable routing. I've got a pretty decent K241 here but its missing carb, coil, starter etc, if we were closer could prob cobble it together .... but.... and there in probably will be the biggest problem is, when & if you find one is paying the stiff frt charges. Also, the Kohler CH series that replaced the "M" has the advantage of a pressurized lubrication system. A good used engine that was on another Wheel Horse will have the proper oil pan and thrust bearing for your tractor.
