Hope this is the right section

On my newly acquired c160.

I hope i can explain this, cuz i wouldnr even kno pics to share.

Its just a bear to start, and frankly, i dont want to burn up the starter or worse.

1st off. The pto doesnt spin freely always when i hit the key. Thats not right, is it?

Was told that the fuel line weeps, n i see the spot, but its not bad.

Also, when i hit the key. Sometimes it just turns over right away, others, not. Or, itll catch, then kind of, i dunno make a grinding noise.

When i got it, i was told to release the break, hit the key, let it spin for 5 times or so, then hit it again. I know thats not normal. Also, when it does start right away, well, its not like any other engine i ever started; as in, you cant really tell it"s 'caught' . You just telease the key n it either starts running or it doesnt.

*shrug*

Hopefully you all might have some suggestions, because i dont want to wreck amything further.

Thanks for your input

If fuel is able to leak out your fuel pump is able to pull air in rather than pulling fuel from the tank.

You need to do a bit of maintenance on the C-160 first then see what problems remain. Once you replace the fuel lines and filter, put in a new spark plug, points and condenser, clean and tighten ALL electrical connections and tighten up all bolts that are not tight you will probably find there aren't any problems.

:confusion-confused:         If the bolts that hold the starter to the block are not good and tight the starter will move out away from the flywheel.

Thankyou, 953 nut.

I will start with these things, as im able when i can. Good, nowvthat i have a directionn to take.

Am i correct, though, that the pto should spin freely when i hit the key?

I dont think the control lever is adjusted properly, either.

Other than that everything appears mounted good and tight. But ill check.

I will get some pics up when i can, of that.

Thankyou, again.

With the PTO lever pulled back there is a small brake pad that should prevent the PTO from turning.

Got the fuel line n filter changed out.

Going to tryn get the pllug out changedout today...is there anything i should watch for or a special socket i need to do this?

Also, ive checked all the connectionsbi know of; evrrything is good and tight...but when u speak of the starter where it attatches to the block being tight, do u have any pics to show what parts, n what, u mean? I THINK i do, n checked that, but want to be certain.

Thanks for all your guidance!

Ps, the plug number is H10, correct?

EDIT TO ADD...Got the plug easy enough; h10; just hoping i dont overtighten the new one when i get it innabit, lol...

Still unclear bout the starter/flywheel though, but again, if it is what i think you are saying, it is tight.

Mechanic told me this morn it could va ring gear n that those are an easy changeout. Is this a possibility, tho as of yet i havent checked the manual if this is something i could address withbmy tools, abilities.

But im learning n working on it😊
