pdubray 14 #1 Posted April 19, 2020 Battery is not charging, checked the rectifier and the 3 prong terminal is disconnected, easy fix hook it up won't start. Unhook it starts right up and runs. Any ideas on why?

pdubray 14 #4 Posted April 19, 2020 The connector plastic has a hole in it.
pdubray 14 #5 Posted April 19, 2020 That could be the problem, thank you for your response.
953 nut 59,299 #6 Posted April 19, 2020 I presume this is a new acquisition and the previous owner failed to mention that. Has the wiring had some non-factory alterations? If there is a significant amount of corrosion on some of the electrical connectors and the rectifier is shorted out the voltage drop across the bad connections could add up.
pdubray 14 #7 Posted April 19, 2020 (edited) Yes a new tractor, and not sure about new wiring. Will look into that. Put a meter on battery running full throttle and was getting 12 volts. Will also be cleaning the connectors as well. Thank you Edited April 19, 2020 by pdubray
peter lena 9,190 #8 Posted April 19, 2020 pdubray, connections are a regular issue, you could try using a dielectric grease at every connection point after lightly sanding contact areas , insures connectivity and stops corrosion. by the way i recently replaced all 3 of my regulators on tractors . all of them being more then 20 plus years old , on line at about 12 $ each . no more issues . pete

The small engine shroud mounted ones or the large older style?
peter lena 9,190 #10 Posted April 19, 2020 ZTX, i used the smaller shroud mount, regulator , i have 3 magnum 12 engines , and replaced all 3 .i was having erratic charge rates, now they are all solid with no fluctuation, pete
