HokieAg07 129 #1 Posted April 18, 2020 Mine is leaking and loose in the bore (can see it vibrating when engine running). Can this plug be removed without much fuss / tear down?
bc.gold 3,406 #2 Posted April 18, 2020 (edited) End of camshaft has a recess for centering during machining so you could drill a hole just deep enough to gr through the welsh plug then thread in a self tapping screw adapted to fit your slide hammer. Another option is to drill the hole say to accept quarter inch thread, then using a bottom tap to thread the hole, use a fairly long thread 1/4" bolt. Screw this bolt in until it bottoms out against the back end of the cam. with a couple more turns it will push out the welsh plug. Just make sure your using a bottom tap to thread the hole, they can be a PITA to get the first thread started with out using the proper holder. If your welsh plug is the convex style why not give the center a good tap to further expand the plug in its bore. Edited April 18, 2020 by bcgold
