98 314-8 not starting update.

I have tested a couple things and here's what I've found:

-When I tested the ignition switch I have power to all the terminals that should have power, and the blue/white wire that runs to the start relay has power when the key is turned to start.

-I have no power from the blue wire coming out of the start relay to my solenoid.

-The seat safety switch is bypassed(two wires braided together and heat shrink wrap over them), as I said I got this tractor third hand.

-I can't figure out how to check the PTO safety switch, when it's engaged the light on my dash doesn't come on when I jumped the two terminals of the PTO switch i got the light to come on. Also when I had the wires to the switch looped together my solenoid made a different clicking sound, still didn't start.

-When the tractor is running and I try and put the parking brake on the tractor immediately shuts off as if a safety switch is making it kill the ignition.

-I cannot find the clutch safety switch yet. Haven't really dug into the rear end to find it.

Thanks again for all the help.

I found the switch! Turns out my gear shift has a switch where when in neutral allows the tractor to start. This switch either failed or is out of alignment. I will be fixing this tonight or bypassing till I can get the new switch here. Thanks for all the help and wiring diagrams. It is much appreciated.

Tuneup

It really makes you sympathetic to all those that bypass switches yet the things have worked for decades. I don't appreciate machines with reverse lockouts and such but those blade switches, I like...glad you found it!

also, you cannot put the parking brake on when the shift is in gear as the engine will die.  It must be in neutral.  Based on my experience, this was a pretty useful update as my spouse would frequently (on older machines) forget to release the parking brake before she would mow.  Not until smoke came pouring off the band brake would she remember. :(
