Tractor boy 239 #1 Posted April 9, 2020 Key switch burned on my 1056 last night. Tractor is okay but switch isn’t. Diagram shows it is part nunber 4988. Doesn’t cross anywhere, i was wondering if anyone knows if O’Reillys or napa would have it.
ebinmaine 71,902 #2 Posted April 9, 2020 If that's a regular Kohler 10 horse with a battery points type ignition... Does it have a switch with two heavy leads , one small one, three total?

Tractor boy 239 #4 Posted April 9, 2020 Toro wants $50, rotary is $
ebinmaine 71,902 #5 Posted April 9, 2020 Somebody might pop on here and give you the correct part number before I get home later on. There are good aftermarket switches available from Standard Motor Parts or Cole Hersee, maybe BorgWarner. Seems as though I ordered one from my local Parts Plus affiliate and it was like $22, $24? ebinmaine 71,902 #6 Posted April 9, 2020 We think you REALLY do want to do in this situation is to replace the battery cables themselves. Believe it or not that might be a huge part of your issue.
Tractor boy 239 #7 Posted April 9, 2020 Cables are getting replaced as well....key was actually smoking

cafoose 3,441 #12 Posted April 9, 2020 I would recommend converting over to a solenoid and 5 terminal switch. I did this to my 876 and I'm very glad I did. This thread should explain how with wiring diagrams:
Tractor boy 239 #13 Posted April 9, 2020 Okay thanks. 5 terminal switches are plain old regular modern lawn mower switches right? I think i might have one i can use on a parts tractor with a blown engine and transmission. Thanks, Tractorboy

There are several types. The 2 main ones for Horses are 103990. Battery points ignition. 103991. Magneto ignition. They can't be mixed. Check the terminal letters to see what they read. B. Or. M. Will be on one fo the terminals. Solenoid from alot of old vehicles can be used or a small 3 terminal universal type.
