416-8 chassis question

Hello Everyone,

I have acquired a 416-8 model with the Kohler M16 engine that I would like to restore to good working condition. This my first experience with Wheel Horse tractors and I don't know much about them. This tractor is a little rough but hopefully it won't cost a fortune to get it going. The chassis has a couple of issues I see that need attention, (at least a couple:). The steering column has some play where it passes through the chassis and the steering gears need some work but it looks like there are some posts that address this. That will be a big help. The other issue is the rear fender pan that the seat attaches to. The seat bolts firmly to it and the fender is bolted securely to the metal mounting bracket under it which is bolted securely to the frame under it. However the fenders will move, the fender/seat assembly is not rigid. It feels almost like it has a suspension that it is setting on which I know isn't right. I haven't torn it down yet but just checking the parts diagrams on-line I can't tell what the problem is.

There must be a broken or missing mount for it just not sure where else it attaches to the frame.

Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

as you might know :wwp:

Sounds like some bolts need to be

snugged up or replaced.

The most of the early modle 300 and 400 series brake right where the front cross menber that supports the fender and gas tank.  . Some weld them and add exr=tra metal there. you'll have to remove the seat and fender pan to see what wrong. As for fixing the steer colum getting the steering wheel off is the hardest part.
