Need help with 98 416h

Hello all.  I'm hoping someone here can steer me in the right direction with my 98 416H.  It has an onan p216g engine.  I have run it over the past week a few times hauling and no problems.  Then the other day I started it and ran it for less than three minutes and it backfired very loud twice and died.  I put a car jump pack on it and was able to get it started and back to garage. It will only run as long as the jump pack is connected. Put another battery in it to see if that was it (I didn't think so but was told it could be) but that didn't make a difference.  It doesn't even try to start with it's own battery but when I put the jump pack on it it runs fine?  Any ideas?

1997 was the last year for the 416-H.

Hmm bought in 98 maybe a leftover from year before but engine tag says meets 98 requirements. Looks like I'll have to change my name. Thanks for the wiring diagrams link.  I'm not really mechanically inclined but can fumble through stuff.  Any idea why it would run with jump pack and not it's own battery?  That doesn't make sense to me.  I really don't even know where to begin.

I don't know where you connected the jump pack, but it does sound like a bad connection of the battery cables.  Check both ends of each.

You likely lost ignition as well as the no crank and as it was coasting to a stop the governor would go to full carb fuel that did not ignite and loaded up the muffler. When the spark was restored it caused the backfire.

Also check the engine grounds as they carry as much current as the wires.
