How do you explain this???

Working on an rj frame that is pretty rusty but salvageable!  I have a weird one here though!

This RJ. Has a dark green paint underneath the red layer.   I have redone a couple of these rjs and never saw anything like this before.  This green paint looks to be the original cost of paint!

I do not think this tractor was repainted twice and I don’t think anyone sandblasted it to remove red paint to paint it green.

I know some RJs were purchased by local governments and painted yellow but what about green?   And this does not look like John Deere green which I have seen used on Wheel Horses before.

So what do you think?

Was there ever such a thing as a forest service Wheelhorse which would have been green?

Maybe im just seeing things. But it kinda looks to me like it was repainted a couple times. maybe not either. I do see alot of red looks like under the green.

I don’t know, but I like that color green!  Like a Panzer in a way...  totally a 60’s color!

Especially the 3,4,500 series tractors where the paint comes off in sheets !

Could be but I will have to do some checking underneath those spots!

See if you can carefully sand away the decent-looking Green spot in the bottom pic, first post. See if there's red under that.

I know of a walk behind Pond with green paintwork. Never seen another, but it's very weathered and sure looks original. The man who owns it claims it's original too. Sort of a Fairbanks Morse forest green.

In this case .. who knows. be curious to know if there's anything under the green, never seen primer on any WH of mine.
