Looking for replacement part

Tripwire

Hey guys Im in need of the electric pto clutch that’s used to run the mower deck and snow blower. My step father passed away and this is all the mower needed to be fully functional. It’s a 1971 800 special. I know the clutch that was on there stopped working awhile ago and he said that they make manual clutches as well. So in short I’m looking for something that will work on this old 8hp Briggs engine. Any help to point me in the right direction will be appreciated.

:text-welcomewave: @Tripwire!  I don’t have any electric clutches, but hopefully if the Big Show goes on in June, you’ll be able to make the trek all the way to Arendtsville for some shopping :handgestures-thumbupright:

Hey @Tripwire, and welcome to RedSquare! Looks like you're close to where the "Big Show" is. If you don't find one before then (June) and it isn't cancelled, that would be an excellent place to find one and see some cool tractors.

Someone more knowledgeable than me will chime in soon, but the clutch should be the same as on a Kohler, assuming the crankshafts are the same diameter. You could post a wanted ad here in the classifieds or look over ebay for a good used unit. New ones are not available. Converting to a manual clutch is an option as long as the Briggs has a thrust bearing to handle the load. I know Kohler engines do, but I'm not sure about yours.

Have you tested the clutch to ensure it isn't a switch/wiring issue? That could certainly be the case, since these machines are 50 years old. We could walk you through how to test if it you need help!

Any pics of your tractor? We love pictures.

Well I need to find out where my step father placed it. I hope he didn’t throw it away. He was in the process of restoring it before he passed.

I think that your B&S could not use the manual PTO unless you added a plate and thrust bearing externally as WH did on some models with B&S Engines.
