Wheel Horse 520H No Start..

Hello, I’m sort of baffled by this one, hopefully someone can shed some light on the problem..

I have a 1996 Toro Wheelhorse 520h garden tractor. Went to start it one day and sounded like the solenoid would spin, engage,  then  “growl” and wouldn’t turn engine over.. I have new battery and all the connections seem tight and clean.. I assume it’s the starter, I replace, it does the exact same..I can hear the solenoid spin, then growl..sometimes just spin..

I pull side cover off to get visual of starter gear engaging onto flywheel .. I can see it spin onto flywheel, then not being able to turn flywheel.. it’s like it’s not spinning the actual motor if the starter, just the solenoid.. I can easily turn engine over by hand by spinning pulley,  it’s not seized..

would this be possible voltage regulator problem? Not providing enough voltage to starter?

im pretty sure it’s normal, but the oil pressure light is flashing with key in on position??

thanks in advance

If you can easily" spin the flywheel", something is disconnected inside the engine.       Pull the spark plugs and check if both pistons are moving when you spin the engine by hand.

The voltage regulator  only supplies power to the battery and  does not supply power to the starter.

Solenoids do not spin, you will have to give a better description of what is happening.

It sounds like the starter drive is slipping, which is odd because I would assume that your new starter came with a new starter drive.
