WHAT A DEAL !!!!!!

Recommended Posts

A e-mail came across my desk the other day from a guy who worked the parts department at my now closed Wheel Horse dealer telling me that he now works in another Wheel Horse dealership far on the other side of the city of Richmond and he has a lead on a 1965 Wheel Horse with a 10hp engine. He wrote that tractor was in good shape but the owner did not know what model it was. Now I do know that ANY 10 hp Wheel Horse model from 1965 is a collectible model. Today Jerry (oldnutred) and I were at a tractor show on the south side of Richmond and I made plans to check the tractor out after leaving the show. Once at the owners house (and don't tell Jerry but only a few miles from his house) there sat a 1965 Wheel Horse model 1075 with a 36 inch deck .... in good running and cosmetic shape! OK yes a 1075 is a hard to find model and many of you will chime in and say "Hey Wild Bill I got a 1075 too" BUT there is another part of this deal .... let me tell ya'll. The couple selling the 1075 told me they did buy this tractor brand new and we talked for a long time about things ... then the topic turned to politics. Now they started the subject first and yes I will talk about the state of the union but not at some ones home I just met. The subject of the American flag came up and the wife ask me if I display the American flag and I answered yes I do. She then said "I have some thing for you" and when we went into the house to get all the papers for the 1075 she handed me a priority mail package from Senator John Warner postmarked Nov 22, 02. In this package was the American flag that was flown over the United States Capitol on Novmeber 12, 2002 at the request of Senator John Warner for this woman and the certificate to prove it !!!!! I was just speechless ... it was one of few times in my life I could not say any thing. Yes I did tell her Thank You and ask her if she was sure about this and she said "yes". You never know what kind of people you will meet when dealing with Wheel Horses but one thing can be sure of is that they will be nice folks!

Bill, We've only spoken once - at the show and very briefly, but watching you in person, and seeing what you do for others over the web, I know you're a hell of a guy. I'm sure this woman picked up on it and as they say, birds of a feather flock together, so there's no reason for her not to give you the flag. Some people have to swindle others to get something, and others just get it because of what they do for others. Fly it proudly!

Bill,

What an experience and what a great story that you will now have with that tractor. I can hear the conversation now.....yeah that is a fine looking tractor but let me tell you about the great gift I received along with it.

Thanks for sharing!

Here is some pictures of the 1075 (taken with camera phone 1.3 mp). And I did test drive the tractor around the yard too ... it has been well taken care of.

That is a great story and a great find! AS an FYI to you and the other members, you can still get a flag flown for you. Last I knew the waiting list is long, but if you contact your local congress person, you should be able to get on the list. Pretty cool gift! :omg:

There's a 1075 a little over an hour west of me that's been for sale for a while. It might not come with a flag, but it has some nice headlights, wheel weights, and the original front tires.

Devin there are no stupid questions.

To answer your question though the 1075 is a short frame & the only hydro, big block, short frame Wheel Horse made. :omg:
