bigbore1934 3 #1 Posted December 30, 2019 So my fuel pump on my 1975 B-80 is leaking like a siv...I've tightened it as much as I could multiple times to get the mowing season finished, but now it's time to fix as it's leaking worse than ever! Do I fix or replace? It has the original cast aluminum pump. I've seen the plastic replacements online that are fairly cheap. Is there someplace that sells the diaphragm so I could fix the existing pump? Which is best? Thanks for any info!
ebinmaine 72,702 #2 Posted December 30, 2019 There's a place in Massachusetts called Thenandnowautomotive.com That sells rebuild kits for your original aluminum pump for around $30. I've not bought one personally yet but I've never heard a bad word about them. I'd go that way if I needed a pump.
Achto 29,404 #3 Posted December 30, 2019 They are the only supplier of Kohler fuel pump kits that I know of. http://www.then-now-auto.com/kohler-fuel-pumps-2/
WHX?? 51,763 #4 Posted December 30, 2019 While your in there consider new filter & fuel lines. The ethanol in regular gas eats away at the rubber & pump diaphragms so consider running unlaced gas if available in your area.

953 nut 60,029 #6 Posted December 30, 2019 When a Kohler fuel pump leaks it is very likely that some of the gas has gotten into your engine oil also. be sure to change the oi.

Tach-a-matic 357 #8 Posted December 30, 2019 (edited) I got tired of looking for the proper replacement so just bypassed it on my B-80. The tank is high enough that it does not need a pump, except to get maybe that last 1/8 out of it. It ran fine for the couple of hours I used it last week. Gravity is very reliable Edited December 30, 2019 by Tach-a-matic

Gravity is very reliable That's true as long as you are on level ground or pointed nose down a bit. I couldn't get away with that here on the mountainside.

tntatro 181 #11 Posted April 5, 2020 Isavetractors also sells the diaphragm pump with spring for Kohler metal fuel pumps. I'm searching for information on a fuel pump that leaks oil out of the pin. The pin was partially pushed out on one side so I tapped it back but it still leaks. I was thinking about putting JB marine weld over the leaking area unless there is a better fix.
