Lagersolut 743 #1 Posted December 25, 2019 Had some time this morning before the birds were done and company arrives getting this no name ready to try to get started. I've never ran across one of these levers on a fuel pump - it's on a K341 my first though was a primer but it has a hole for a cable .
rmaynard 16,299 #2 Posted December 25, 2019 It is a primer.
ZXT 2,401 #3 Posted December 25, 2019 (edited) Never seen anything like that! Maybe it's a primer or a way to disengage the fuel pump? Could pull the plunger away from the cam it runs on. Edited December 25, 2019 by ZXT
ebinmaine 72,709 #4 Posted December 25, 2019 I've seen pics of those levers. I agree that it's a primer The hole for a cable may be for usage on another brand or types of machine.

If I get good flow/prime with the manual lever can you assume a good flow with the cam lever inside the crank case ? I’m going to start off just trying to get this running with a short piece of fuel line into a small portable can to see what I have ... fuel lines on it are shot .. also water in the tank .
bc.gold 3,406 #6 Posted December 25, 2019 (edited) Agreed it's a priming lever and it will only prime if the camshaft lobe is not in a position to be lifting the pump diaphragm. Otherwise you have to turn the engine over a few degrees in order for the primer to work. Edited December 26, 2019 by bcgold

Never assume, you can test the fuel pump with a vacuum gauge on the inlet side, if the vacuum is non existent or drops off the gauge within a few seconds the valves inside the pump are leaking. Or you can test on the outlet side for pressure and leak down.
The Tuul Crib 7,339 #8 Posted December 27, 2019 I have a fuel pump in my collection that has one of these on it and by the looks of your block It looks the same as the one that I have. I believe it came off a pardon me for saying JD. Was a 10 horse

Stepney 2,354 #11 Posted January 3, 2020 Just for reference, in my case. I own a pair of Arctic Cat snowmobiles with K301's and they have that lever. The cable runs up to the dash panel for seated starting of the engine. Seems I only see this type of pump on an engine that has a remote fuel source, often far away. Makes priming much easier. They are a bit hard to find. I never throw them out. I put them on any WH I get when I have a spare on hand. Much easier on the starters to just pull the lever a few times if it's been sitting a while. Instant cold starts every time.
