lagersolut, boy that 16 hp got my attention ! in addition from the general looks it could be a simple sever, hope you find easy fixes and get it back to life, i would really detail the engine and trans flushing if possible to ensure full recovery.  i would love to bring that back to life , its so worth it pete

When my cousin posted the pics of this and told me it was a freebie I had no idea was going to tilt the hood and find a K341 16 hp tractor ...

Yea - Don’t think I’ll be tearing this one down for a parts tractor .

I know someone was in the tranny at some point it it’s life - found a small bead of blue form a gasket at the back seeped out between the transmission halves .

Nice looking SK-486! I certainly couldn't bring myself to part a tractor that nice! It looks better than mine for sure.

I know you said you can't get to it until spring, but if it were mine I'd have the axle seals and woodruff keys replaced about a half hour after I got it home and put it to work!

I'm in my busy season here in the North East right now delivering heat and power fuels , 60-70 hour weeks until mid March . Don't worry I'm already on parts lists getting my game plan in order....lol .... This things been sitting awhile, gas tank is bone dry, filthy and smells like varnish ....flushing the tank, new fuel lines and some ignition parts before I even turn the key .....

I told the wife this was gonna be a parts tractor ...I'm gonna get in hot water on this one ....I can see it coming ...lol :icecream:

Not letting that K341 go to waste .

Looking at the freebie reminds me of the lyrics to a Marty Robbins song "El Paso".

Out through the back door of Rose's I ran, out where the horses were tied
I picked a good one; he looked like he could run
Up on his back and away I did ride.

Good luck with it.

Looks like you have a 1982  SK-486, which I believe is basically a C-161 8 speed unless something is different with the axel thickness. If I remember correctly those were the leftovers from the 79-79 C-series because in 1980 they came out with the black hood C-1_5 design. S=special K=Kohler 48=48” mower deck and the 6 was for 16 hp. I remember hearing they put this together to use the the new old stock.

The only difference to my C-101 this unit has 1 inch axles . Has a 42" rear discharge deck on it now .

Snapped a few more pictures - I'm 99% sure I'm opening this transmission both seals are out and hubs drifted into trans case ...didn't get a chance to jack it up and check for play yet . The good news there's no water in it . the gas tank is another story ....couldn't figure out what was going on in there .....have a ice cube floating around ...boot on shifter looks like it was replaced at some point it's not all cracked up ....fuel cap is another story

I'm just hoping it wasn't ran with the bearings out tearing up the case or axles
