Lagersolut 743 #1 Posted December 22, 2019 No name Wheel Horse 8 speed - at this point I have no idea if it runs - crankcase oil doesn't look bad -no water - engine turns with no noises - seals are out on the trans both hubs are drifted into the trans case . I actually picked this up for a parts tractor but this 16 hp k341 really has me thinking getting this back in service . I can't get this in the garage and start working on it until spring . Putting the numbers in I'm coming up with 1982 6

I know someone was in the tranny at some point it it’s life - found a small bead of blue form a gasket at the back seeped out between the transmission halves .

ZXT 2,401 #7 Posted December 23, 2019 Nice looking SK-486! I certainly couldn't bring myself to part a tractor that nice! It looks better than mine for sure. I know you said you can't get to it until spring, but if it were mine I'd have the axle seals and woodruff keys replaced about a half hour after I got it home and put it to work!

I'm in my busy season here in the North East right now delivering heat and power fuels , 60-70 hour weeks until mid March . Don't worry I'm already on parts lists getting my game plan in order....lol .... This things been sitting awhile, gas tank is bone dry, filthy and smells like varnish ....flushing the tank, new fuel lines and some ignition parts before I even turn the key ..... I told the wife this was gonna be a parts tractor ...I'm gonna get in hot water on this one ....I can see it coming ...lol Not letting that K341 go to waste . 1
953 nut 60,377 #9 Posted December 23, 2019 Looking at the freebie reminds me of the lyrics to a Marty Robbins song "El Paso". Out through the back door of Rose's I ran, out where the horses were tied I picked a good one; he looked like he could run Up on his back and away I did ride. Good luck with it.

c-series don 10,159 #11 Posted December 23, 2019 Looks like you have a 1982 SK-486, which I believe is basically a C-161 8 speed unless something is different with the axel thickness. If I remember correctly those were the leftovers from the 79-79 C-series because in 1980 they came out with the black hood C-1_5 design. S=special K=Kohler 48=48” mower deck and the 6 was for 16 hp. I remember hearing they put this together to use the the new old stock.

Snapped a few more pictures - I'm 99% sure I'm opening this transmission both seals are out and hubs drifted into trans case ...didn't get a chance to jack it up and check for play yet . The good news there's no water in it . the gas tank is another story ....couldn't figure out what was going on in there .....have a ice cube floating around ...boot on shifter looks like it was replaced at some point it's not all cracked up ....fuel cap is another story I'm just hoping it wasn't ran with the bearings out tearing up the case or axles Edited December 23, 2019 by Lagersolut
