dodge78 90 #1 Posted April 23, 2009 I will be installing new bolts because I only got one with the engine. First one is an original, I believe. The second one is longer but will fit the hole while the unthreaded part is shorter. The third one has a longer unthreaded part and will need more threads and cut to length. Both of the new bolts are not quite the same diameter as the old one. Which one would be the best to use?
catman81056 3 #2 Posted April 24, 2009 Try looking at the Kohler site and see if they sell bolt kits.
Prater 75 #3 Posted April 24, 2009 Are the bolts the same strength? If the bolt is not the same or better grade the head will warp or pop right off the engine. Look at the ead of the bolt for grading. http://www.boltdepot.com/fastener-informat...rade-Chart.aspx

On the kohler site the bolts are 1 1/2" long.
dodge78 90 #5 Posted April 24, 2009 According to the yahoo group, Kohler Engine Club, they should be grade 8 with grade 8 flat washers at 1 1/2" long.
Prater 75 #6 Posted April 25, 2009 Go with the grade 8 bolts that are supposed to be on the head. You can get them at Lowes, HD, or ACE Hardware.
catman81056 3 #7 Posted April 25, 2009 What Prater said Grade 2 bolts should only be used for fishing sinkers, they break real easy.
