What belt are you speaking of? The drive belt or the PTO? Whichever it is, make sure that it turns freely. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

rmaynard 16,373 #7 Posted December 17, 2019 (edited) There is nothing on an 875 that would prevent the engine from starting with the belt on or off. In other words, no safety switches. With the belt on and the parking brake engaged, the belt is loose on the pulleys. When the parking brake is released, the belt tightens but is not super tight, just enough tension to turn the pulley on the transmission. There is nothing in the belt area that would effect starting. The only thing I can think of is the battery ground wire on mine connects to the bolt that holds the belt cover to the engine. I'd look there first.
