Spec is 1200 but do any of you deviate from that?

My C160 K341 "sounds good" at about 1350 - 1400....

Disclaimer:

I do realize I should replace/re-bush the carb at some point.

Going lower is not a good idea as it impacts the splash lubrication Kohler spec'd 1200 for a reason.

:confusion-confused:            Considering the fact that your engine is cooled by air flow (flywheel RPMs) and the lubrication is splash lubrication based on crank shaft RPMs, why would want to slow down the idle speed.    :jaw:

I was hoping to see people say >1200 because I like it a little higher and felt a little guilty being that there a lot of "as low as she'll go" fans out there

While I do admit it is cool to hear some engines idle very low for a bit ... It just isn't good for these air-cooled ones as stated above.

My K341 just doesn't sound right to me any lower...

Never knew the spec was 1200. That seems ridiculously fast.

I might be one of those "low as she'll go" guys :hide:.

Not that I do it very often or for an extended period of time.

I've always set mine to just over tick-over. Just a hair faster than the starter will crank. Running implements at engine shows, my Electro 16 idles at perhaps 800rpm all day running a water pump or the like. It's never gotten hot or made bad noises. I know many who do the same thing. Doesn't make it right .. but I've never seen an issue before. Running my sickle bar mower I'm sure the engine never breaks 1500. Any more and the machine would fly apart.
