What do I have?

Recommended Posts

Slampig

I picked this up for my son a couple weeks ago. The guy I got it from said he got it at an auction and it sat in his barn untouched for the past 25 years. Came with a mower deck, but I took it off. Looks to be in pretty good shape, the  transaxle was stuck, flushed it and now it’s free. It has a Lauson, appears to be missing the air filter, electric starter, recoil starter, throttle lever & plate. I’m thinking it’s a 551 although I don’t see where the battery would go in front of the motor and the controls have me a little confused. It has the factory square cut out where I thought the throttle & choke would go, but it also has a push/pull choke knob. Does anyone know if this was the factory set up or was it added later?

That would be a 1960 550 suburban.  Battery goes under the seat. Push/pull cable was added should have levers in the square hole

I think so too! I don’t plan on painting it, just gonna get it running, and clean off the 25+ years of barn crud

Great find,   :text-coolphotos:    you can place a wanted ad in the classified section on here and may be able to come up with the missing parts.
