. Most were field borders but some are just markers I think.

That's what I always assumed as well.

In many cases that's absolutely true.

Here in the hill country there is so much Rock in the soil that you have to think of them as a rock pile... Placed in a line for convenience.

Many farmers would build multiple lines of Rock in the same direction that the horse travelled and then put a gap halfway down so they can travel between those fields.

Thanks Eric. Good point on the walls. They did not have any machinery in those days =1600`s. Just hard labor.

Horses, oxen, and large families.

One photo opportunity that occurred for me was a scenic overlook in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park while bringing home my 310-8 from Tennessee where I purchased it.

It was listed on Red Square by a new member who joined for the sole purpose of selling the 310-8.  I called him about ten minutes after it was listed and sent the money via PayPal friends and family about five minutes later. The next day I headed over to Pigeon Forge to pick it up. He said he had several other members who called after me, one even offered more than the asking price  :hide: (it was a steal). He was a real nice guy who had bought it from the dealer new, stored it indoors and provided all of the service records.

Very low hours. This 310 was used to mow the lawn at a lakeside summer cabin. !/2 hour X 12 times a year X 30 years = 180 +/-. The gentleman that owned it was needing to downsize and sold the cabin and had his house on the market, just had no further need for the 310 and wanted it to go to a good home.
