Here is how the numbers were laid out in the '60;s First number 7 = 7 horse power Middle number 0 = pull start, manual transmission on most tractors with some exceptions. A 701 had electric start for example. 5 = electric start, manual transmission 7 = electric start, hydrostatic transmission Last number = the year of the tractor - 4 = 1964, 6 = 1966 This system continued until 1968, when the tractors were given names like Raider, Challenger, Electro, or Bronco for example.
