I also have trouble with this , I bet there's a fuel burning plant somewhere making the electricity for these vehicles. When we go totally to solar and wind power, I'll believe it then! Of course the solar panels, windmills and all associated infrastructure would need to be produced using only power produced by same. That includes everything from mining to manufacturing and installation. I'll be glad when this thing dies out and tax incentives are abolished.
Tractorhead 9,212 #28 Posted December 3, 2019 Electric can also be a fascinating drivetrain, but it is not the Problemsolver for all, how it will be sold to us. about the Theme Emissions: i did wan‘t hear something of that Theme. Have anybody recalculated with all processes, how much Emissions will be produced at the manufacturing on a single Electric or Hybride Car and layed in comparing to a used Car about Emissions? They did it last Time at a German Broadcast Station, because they thaught they see a good Values for pro‘s. (trash you car, buy a new electric or hybride) The result in fact was not as they thaught, but 2 Day’s later this Report was hidden in the Mediathekt - think what you want about. The real result was, you must drive a old Car with a Consumpt at 12 Litres for at Least 45 Years, to come to same emissions as for producing one new Electric Car actually. To much Power will be produced actually with high CO2 output. if they Change that first, reduces significant the whole situation, but this can‘t be done in only a Year. What brings a CO2 Fee, except of Money for the Government, nothing you’re right. And CO2 emission is just one small part of the whole. IMHO a good Footprint is to handle ressources with respect, take care of your lifestyle and show respect to the Planet and finally handle that over to your Kids. janis joplin said it once, we handle this world, as we had another one in the Trunk. 1

So my question to you is this: If a fully-electric engine came along that could power your WH, would you swap out your existing engine? Thoughts? Sorry, forgotten to answer your question: the actual available motors (BLDC) are easy able to handle that, the other question is where to storage the Capacity. Actually there was just LiFePo4 batteries in focus, but they are very expensive in a size you will need to replace the same seat time. Even the produces more Emissions as a Fuel Lawn engine can produce in it‘s lifetime, but that was not your question. Another issue is if Battery runs low, how to Recharge, or simply exchange like a Fuel refill and recharge later. It just depends on the thing you like to do with, and the money you like to spend, possible is nearly all but not in all versions.
balconio 606 #30 Posted December 4, 2019 i would not be into electric and here's why. driving a low-compression high torque (at low rpm) sidevalve engine has such a satisfying feel to it... it's like operating a diesel but with none of the diesel downsides (gelled fuel, hard to start, i have to stock diesel, etc). Someday i want a Ford 8N tractor for these same reasons. i wish they polluted less, and if there was a way to add a catalytic converter to our Kohlers for cheap I'd be all for it. converters aren't very useful without closed-loop EFI, and that blows the whole simplicity angle which i also like about these old flatheads. And yes i know an electric would be possibly even more torquey than my M12 Kohler- but i'm also a big fan of the sound and vibrations this thing produces. It's timeless! 1
Pullstart 67,084 #31 Posted December 9, 2019 I’ve been meaning to post these, mainly the top one. They hang in my shop. When ELECTRIC was a term for cool.... 1
Tractorhead 9,212 #32 Posted December 9, 2019 Thanks Buddy, Yeah - i love classic Cars, a Friend had an Lincoln Convertible 4Door from 1974, a Car that officially never exists. It had a Serialnumber that begin with something like a A*- (normal serialnumber), where we found out, it was one of 3 Prototypes It was a huge 6,97m Flagship, helped him at restauration but have no place to store.😢 He sold it 10 years ago to a Collector. Maybe i‘ll found the Pict of my first Testdrive after we had all together.. searching Electric drive is Not a new thing, as advertising would make us believe. Even Wheelmotors aren‘t. In 1900 at Worldexibition Mr. Ferdinant Porsche convertet and demonstrates allready his Lohner Porsche with Wheel motors for Race purposes. The newer Motors may have better technologies (BLDC) better Magnets and better Electric for Commutation than before, but it is an 120 Year old technology, they will be now sold as „brandnew idea“ hahaha.. let‘s go Copy Paste from the past.......
