Stepney 2,354 #1 Posted November 13, 2019 Saw this little guy show up on the local classified page we need not mention. Listed for 75.00. Last thing I need is another project but .. I called anyway. Couldn't make time work and talked myself out of it. Just this morning, the fellow calls and says to take it or leave it, 25.00, its headed to scrap if it doesn't go. Well we can't have that.. so off I went. I haven't checked the build plate but he believes it's a 1971. Charger 12, obviously. It was family owned since new. Parked in 1992 when a deck pulley rounded off. Apparently uncovered, and untouched since that day. Square rubber WH key remains in the ignition. Engine does turn over, deck is there but a bit worse for the wear. It has a Solid State Ignition K301 in it which supposedly ran when parked. Interested to see if it's actually still working. Not quite sure what'll happen with it just yet, but here she is! Couldn't stand for it to be crushed. 4 8

ZXT 2,401 #3 Posted November 13, 2019 (edited) Very cool save! Those deals are the best. Looks like it'll clean up nicely and make a good worker. It's been out of service for longer than it was in use! Did that Stover come from the same person? EDIT: Maybe it isn't a Stover. Hopper looks a little different. IH maybe? International Harvester Famous 1hp in fact. Just chilling in the back of the truck till I get a minute to unload it. Needs a complete overhaul it's pretty well tired and cobbled.

Stepney 2,354 #12 Posted November 15, 2019 This machine is very much a mixed bag. Logically i has a fraction of the runtime of most machines. Looking down bore confirms that. No carbon buildup, nice golden brown H10 plug, no wear on the starter gear. Tank cap crumbled in my hand but inside of the tank is spotless. Clean oil in both the engine and trans. That's where everything stops. One rear hub has destroyed itself and has a bolt through it, was shimmed with a piece of pipe, destroyed itself, the axle, and the trans housing further. Other side isn't much better. The deck continues with the same logic. The housing is rusted badly and smashed up. Axle bracket, hitch, and all linkage has broken many times and been repaired. Yet .. perfect, still sharp blades on it, and the spindles are smooth and tight. 1
ebinmaine 73,015 #13 Posted November 16, 2019 Hey you gotta put that hub video on YouTube and post it here.....
pfrederi 18,718 #14 Posted November 16, 2019 Cracked ignition coil is not promising but they are easier/cheaper to find than the trigger assembly. When you open her up test test the trigger per manual. if it pass i can fix you up with a coil.
