fwj 1 #1 Posted November 11, 2019 can a newer and cheaper rectifier be retrofitted ? I have the square one with a pigtail. a new one is $ 116.00. will the wrong/cheaper one not work right such as over charge the battery or damage the stator ?
The Tuul Crib 7,332 #2 Posted November 11, 2019 (edited) to Shouldnt hurt at all make sure it is the correct amperage that you need .Usually a 15 amp. Edited November 11, 2019 by The Tool Crib
rmaynard 14,907 #3 Posted November 11, 2019 I would never pay that much for a reg/rec. If it is one of the aluminum ones with fins, I get replacements from Milford Power: https://www.milfordpower.com/R10297-Voltage-Regulator-Replaces-Kohler-41-403-06-p/r10297.htm You can also find some on Amazon.

gwest_ca-(File Mod) 10,503 #5 Posted November 11, 2019 The small ones need to be fan cooled. That is why they are mounted in the flywheel blower housing. Garry

WHX?? 46,808 #7 Posted November 11, 2019 (edited) Or do you have the small square one with the mounting hole in the middle? Molded in leads coming out in terminating in a two term. connector? That's what is on my C-125 not like the style you guys have on your tractors and posted links to. I definitely don't have one like on your 145 Dan @Achto. I was thinking of replacing it as it tends to run at 15.5 - 16 volts. My bad no pics of it other than IPL. WH/Toro 109313 rectifier Yah Toro is quite proud of them. https://www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Rectifier/109313/2144845 Just one of many I found same price range. Parts tree @ $133 !!! Some research on a Chinese one or retrofit is in order. Bingo if this is what you are looking for fwj. https://www.ebay.com/itm/ELECTRICAL-RECTIFIER-WORK-PRO-711522011-109313-TYMPANIUM-CORP-N-O-S/323837832942?hash=item4b663d2eee:g:pTMAAOSw7l1dCT2p Edited November 12, 2019 by WHX24

I could be wrong but that unit looks like it is only a rectifier. I believe that Kohler ran something close to what Briggs does for a little while. No voltage regulation, just a lower amp AC stator and a rectifier or diode to change the voltage to DC. This may be why you are metering a little high at the battery. If your not cooking the battery, I wouldn't worry about it.

I believe you may right Dan no regulation just some DC being flung at the battery & lighting. I replaced the questionable ampmeter with a 12 dollar digital volt meter so keep an eye on it. As little as this tractor will get worked at this point I doubt batteries will get cooked. Running with the lights on helps keep the voltage down. It would not be a project to replace it with one Garry has shown above.
