The Tuul Crib 7,339 #1 Posted November 3, 2019 As I'm tearing these motors apart and going through them one of the 16 horse that I'm working on I ran across the wires on the camshaft that were extremely brittle. It just disintegrated when I touched it. What is the purpose for these little pieces of wire on the camshaft? Do they serve a purpose?

Elliot Garfinkel 166 #4 Posted November 3, 2019 I was looking for them also not sure if I need it but rather have and not use it.Does the other motor have it or are you doing one at a time.Do you have pull start .I guess if you have elec. You dont really need it.

You dont really need it. I am doing one motor at a time and I have another motor I can rob the part off of for now. I have found a part on eBay for around seven or eight bucks shipped to my house. You would think that this little tiny spring could be left out but what I am told it is important . These little springs are so so tender ! stevasaurus 23,281 #6 Posted November 4, 2019 Might try going directly to Kohler. I think I would want one with a pull start engine. Maybe make one...I think ACE has sections of spring wire.
Elliot Garfinkel 166 #7 Posted November 4, 2019 It cant be that the motor would be useless for that little spring.Or would it just be a real hard pull

Elliot Garfinkel 166 #9 Posted November 4, 2019 You had my curiosity going did some googling it seems that they are still available not sure for your application but their also was some threads on that topic on this site and it seems that with elec start you wouldn't even know the difference
The Tuul Crib 7,339 #10 Posted November 4, 2019 I'm really not sure of the purpose of these little springs. But they are inside the motor for a reason. I'm sure though that it would still run without them . They can't be any worse than the balance gears LOL
Guest 88vic #11 Posted November 4, 2019 Thats the compression release spring. With electric start you may not notice a difference but ......if it were a pull start, it would yank the rope out of your hand and that could sometimes hurt ! Lol
The Tuul Crib 7,339 #12 Posted November 4, 2019 OK so if I leave it out no worries .
