Mudrig150 331 #1 Posted October 28, 2019 Is a Wheel horse wide base Magnum 14 a direct swap for a magnum 18? Looking to get my Snapper going, but the ignition module is dead on the motor, and if it has to come out it's not going back in.
953 nut 60,086 #2 Posted October 28, 2019 The Magnum 18 Kohler is mounted to an adapter plate which bolts to the frame. I suspect the holes that it bolts to are the same as the 14 but can not confirm it. What has that got to do with a Snapper?

The Magnum 18 is a good engine - I wouldn't let something as simple as a bad ignition module put you off of it. Replacing the ignition module will likely prove cheaper and easier than swapping the engine.. and you won't be downgrading. Edit: If you do wind up pulling it off, or if you still have your other magnum and would consider selling parts, I might be interested! Well, in the end it's going in my 317 anyway, so this is just expediting the process. I just want to keep the Snapper going for now. The other Magnum isn't in half bad shape, it's just filthy right now. I already know the heads are going on the other engine to fix the stripped out plug holes, but that's all I'm taking off.
Mudrig150 331 #6 Posted November 6, 2019 Set motor on the mounting plate, and it's the same crank height and driveshaft adapter holes. The drop in the middle of the mounting plate is making it hard to mount the engine, so I'm putting another piece of steel on top of the mounting plate and mounting the engine to it. Next issue was the air cleaner was making the hood not close, but with a shorter air cleaner base and cover it now only rubs the hood, only issue is the throttle linkage hits the air cleaner base, so it'll need trimmed. Now to figure out what to do for a muffler...
