Taking off summer trim.

I found these on C/List for $10.00 I ask if they hold air they said? For $10.00 I took a chance and went to look at them with my dog. They fit but I think there  a little taller. Nice country ride in the rain. I will put the chains on and the wheel weights.

  Can’t go wrong for $10. So if I understand correctly ...your setting yourself up with dedicated summer and winter tires?

Nice.  I haven't seen that Sears logo in quite some time!  The Sears by me has two weeks left until it closes for good...

Nice. I like that tread pattern better than the newer flatter style. My 87 has this pattern. I have them wore down pretty good now though.

Had they went from a catalog store to an on line store, they might be in better shape. JMO, they didn't start out as a brick & mortar store.

I also have Sears wheels and tires on the back of my C-160 - when I got it it had one correct wheel with an ag tire, and one rather wide wheel (might be right for a 520) with a bad tire, so I robbed the rears off of my Sears GT 19.9. Offset is slightly different on them and they hit the transmission on the LH side, so I had to slide the hub out about 1/4 inch. I need to get a set back on the Sears so that I'll actually use it. I love the way the 20 HP Onan on it sounds. 

 

I wish I would've been around when Sears and Montgomery Ward were in their heyday.. I've looked through old catalogs and I'd be in heaven walking through the stores. We had a set of Wards tires on a car until a few years ago! Still have a Wards freezer in service as well.

We lost our Sears about a year ago. Them and Wards just went the wrong way with the stuff they were trying to sell. Miss Sears tools more than anything else they had. Lowes is selling all the craftsman tools now in their stores. Just don't seem right.

I went and did a craftsman tool exchange on 2 of my rachets at Lowes. They didn't ask any questions or give me a hard time.  I went and found comparable rachets and they had me walk out with new ones for free.  Lady told me that Lowes bought the rights and Craftsman name and will continue to honor the sears tradition.

Yes Mike I will switch them out every year because of where I store the tractor under the porch in the summer. It will not fit thru the door with the weights on. I do not use it much in the summer any way. Found and easy way to put on tires and rims.

             Only way to go!            Takes a lot less time and aggravation to swap out the wheel assemblies than removing and reinstalling weights and chains.

Ok Richard I have to ask. How do you take tires off if the weights are on?

I just reach inside the hole in the weights to start the lug nuts on the studs. Once they are started the impact wrench with an extension does the rest. Can't see the whole hole in this picture but it is the only picture I have of the 418-C with the weights and chains on it.

I have yet to exchange broken tools at a Lowe's.  Right now Ace Hardware has exact replacements on hand if I need to exchange and have done so with no issues at all.  A large portion of Stanley-Black & Decker made Craftsman hand tools appear to be rebranded Stanley hand tools and I know they're more than enough for most people's needs, but I just cannot bring myself to purchase any of them.  It may be a different story if the tools were made here in the USA...
