WildmanC120 613 #26 Posted November 2, 2019 Got my bearing for the PTO bell today. Got it all rebuilt and greased and installed back on the tractor. Nice and smooth now. Quiet too. I took the 48" deck off my c-160 and decided to put it on here for the final now today. I have to say i was rather happy with the way it performed. I think this will be my new mowing tractor. One thing that will need addressing is a slight surge. Not a lot but it's there. I have the screw on the carb that faces the muffler opened up a bit (unsure of turns) and it made it better. Is the surge just a carb clean issue or could it be something else?
Bill D 2,281 #27 Posted November 2, 2019 Check the bolts that hold the intake manifold to the block. Mine were loose. Onans can be touchy. My local dealer refers to them as Onan the Barbarian. I think I need to clean my carb again on mine.

Might be a good idea to just throw a set of gaskets on it and soak the carb real well.
Tuneup 1,452 #29 Posted November 5, 2019 I just picked up a 516 and the surge is about as bad as it gets. Runs well with 1/2 choke. Looking at the blessed internet, it could be carb or intake leaks (split intake), or gaskets. In any event, it's coming off. As I have a wife of 31 years, it's honeydos that come first. Can't fix the tractor until the workbench is built - have been in the house only a few months. Can't do the workbench until the bookcase is built. ...and so on. Being handy is a blessing and a curse. Oh, down here on 3 acres is under $2K in taxes. Headed to Home Crappo to get some wood for the bookcase so there is progress. Ah, to be free to chase one's passions...
