The-fish 7 #1 Posted October 16, 2019 Hi All Always liked wheel horse tractors, always wanted one. I was able to get one in the early spring at a auction, brought it home cleaned up years of grime and sludge off of it. Over all its all original, with the onan engine. Not sure what I planned on doing with it, but having 3 riders and barn filling up fast Ive decided to sell it, but not sure for how much Everything works on the mowers, all gears/speeds work. engages and mows, engine purs the bad- someone at some point disconnected all the original wiring harness. so the fuse box isnt hooked up to any wires. Lights dont work, gauges dont work. I fully suspect it would be rewired and everything working fine. Just wanted to mention its model num is a 416-8 any ideas on a price for it ? stevasaurus 23,307 #3 Posted October 16, 2019 I hate to say it but Craig is correct. It is impossible to say what something like these horses are worth without pictures. Good pictures from different views.

ZXT 2,401 #5 Posted October 16, 2019 What are your "riders"? If they're of the light-duty lawn mower variety and not a GT, I'd sell one of them and keep the Horse. Just my $.02!
rjg854 12,259 #6 Posted October 16, 2019 other than the wiring issues, a Wheel Horse is a real working tractor.
Guest 88vic #7 Posted October 16, 2019 A 416-8 is a desirable tractor, many Redsquare folks love them. You should have no problem selling it no matter what shape its in. I just got one myself a couple months ago for $10. It didnt have an engine but I threw a kohler command twin on it. Havent hooked anything up yet, other Horses have been getting attention, but its in the line up soon.
The-fish 7 #8 Posted October 17, 2019 The other riders are simplicity regent 50 cut white 54 cut “garden tractor” Older monkey wards with a 50 cut “garden” on a work factor as as well as the cool factor the horse blows them all way no doubt, which is why I’ve always liked them, and it pulls up my hill like none of the others do i just don’t know how I feel the Onan motor, I’ve heard it’s a love hate. And if it gets to hate, parts are enormously expensive and hard to get so not sure I want to be working this thing on 7 acres 1
Yossarian 210 #9 Posted October 17, 2019 I am an absolute novice at this so someone is likely to come along shortly and poke a bunch of holes in this, but I'm totally okay with that. WHEELHORSEFAN*16 mentioned that he put a Kohler on his. Maybe the key isn't looking at repairing the Onan when it goes, maybe it's about replacing it. Do any of the other riders have good candidates for donor engines? On the other hand, given the above mentioned post, I'd gladly give you $15 for it since it has an engine

Regular oil changes and keeping the cooling Passages clean are very important. If you remove the engine tins and clear out all the accumulated dirt and clippings that will be very beneficial.
tom2p 2,394 #11 Posted October 17, 2019 (edited) Wheel Horse with a good Onan 16 is an outstanding performer can go through just about anything and never bogs - and does not require full throttle Edited October 17, 2019 by tom2p

The-fish 7 #13 Posted October 17, 2019 All good comments and I agree. I never bought it with intentions of being my main go to mower. Got it more for fun and appreciation. But thinking I’d rather just sell hopefully to someone to restore or a collector, I may even keep for a while. Wanting to get some tools for my shop and selling it would help that along was just hoping to get a value on it
stevasaurus 23,307 #14 Posted October 17, 2019 If it run good and everything works...I would say it is in the $700-$800 range. It looks pretty nice.

Darb1964 1,120 #16 Posted October 17, 2019 That thing's is junk, I'll give you fifty bucks and a craftsman. I'll fly out tomorrow and have it shipped back to Ma. So you never have to see it again. You can thank me later.

Darb1964 1,120 #18 Posted October 17, 2019 Fish I'll need to find a craftsmen if you do, plenty around. That's a great tractor, I would keep it if it was mine.
