Chrishar 718 #1 Posted October 14, 2019 (edited) Have a 702 wheel horse with k161 motor it sounds like it will almost die then it will backfire throw the carb. And run good for a little bit then do it again I replaces the coil, points, considered, plug, plug wire and try another carb. too i rebuild the motor 2 years ago ran good until 2weeks ago then started do that need help please and thank you Edited October 14, 2019 by Chrishar
wallfish 18,143 #2 Posted October 14, 2019 Just a guess But maybe exhaust valve sticking. Typically a back fire through the carb indicates the exhaust valve is not fully seated during ignition. Maybe timing advanced if the points are loose? Carbon buildup on exhaust valve holding it open?

richmondred01 2,307 #4 Posted October 16, 2019 Start with the easy stuff. look at what walfish said then also if that’s not the issue then pull the flywheel and make sure the key isn’t sheared. I can’t tell you how many “rebuilt” engines I’ve had in my shop that the owner didn’t torque the flywheel resulting in the key being sheared or keyway on the crank being destroyed.
