Removing muffler elbow

Recommended Posts

Mudrig150

So I have to remove the muffler elbow on my K241 to put the correct muffler on my tractor. It's still intact, and I don't want to break it off because we don't have a thin enough hacksaw to cut it. Been soaking it in PB blaster and tapping the block lightly for a while now. Any other suggestions?

You might try running till hot, then spray wd40 around the threads. This in turn will cool and suck in the lubricant into the threads.

Doesn't run at the moment. Still waiting on my brother to order axle seals.

You can also try heating with a small torch and then spray. Same effect different heating method.

I agree with Bill as stated above.

Heat. Penetrating oil. Repeat. Patience.

Just as a point of interest I am not at all a fan of PB blaster. I've had very very poor success with that product as a penetrating oil.

This is the kind of subject where a lot of people have their favorite thing to use and many of them work quite well.

I'm a huge fan of  Kroil in the spray can and believe it or not good old-fashioned $6 a can Liquid Wrench.

mechanical advantage is best, using a 14" pipe wrench , tighten it to stop at about 11 oclock  toward steering wheel , using a 3 lb hammer , hit the area just behind the barrel nut adjuster on wrench, that is your hardest reverse impact, you should not have any wrench bounce, just a solid drive impact. that should do it, along with a penetrating oil, pete

Air chisel with a blunt point.  You are not trying to cut it just vibrate the heck out of it. Work all around it then focus on the left hand side I walked one out that way not long ago.
