gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,489 #2 Posted October 1, 2019 Going to take some more research as shows as no longer available. https://www.partstree.com/models/190434-0825-xx-briggs-stratton-horizontal-engine/blower-hsg-flywheels-screen-0/ Stens dealer in Canada https://www.bantasaw.com/catalog/viewproduct.asp?i=&p=1379 I don't know if this electronic version can be used on your engine https://www.bantasaw.com/catalog/viewproduct.asp?i=&p=1969 Garry
Howie 899 #3 Posted October 1, 2019 Pretty sure the electronic version can be used, they just quit making the one used with points. Just went thru this looking up one for another Briggs and the points one was supercede to the electronic one.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,489 #4 Posted October 1, 2019 Found this Clarification: Only the Briggs cast iron singles built before 7/31/81 (9-16HP, 23xxx-32xxx)models had this flywheel magnet polarity issue. None of the L-head vertical singles with points & 2-leg coils had this concern. I have tried the electronic versions on some engines and they don't work on them all. The magnet polarity on a cast iron block Briggs flywheel is backwards, this is what keeps an electronic coil from working. You can send your old flywheel to Briggs & they will reverse the polarity for FREE!! BUT, if there is any flaw in the fly wheel they will throw it away and you will be without a fly wheel. Here is a better solution. A new electronic coil will have markings that say "cylinder side", normally this would go towards the cylinder. On a cast iron Briggs install the new electronic coil with the "cylinder side" facing away from the cylinder. I have done this on several cast iron Briggs engines & have never had an issue. It will eliminate having to pull the flywheel to mess with the points. When you get your new electronic coil you can simply cut the points wire that goes from the old coil to the points under the fly wheel & just leave the old points right where they are. Make sure you install the new coil with the marked "cylinder side" facing towards the cylinder.
