Mudrig150 331 #1 Posted October 1, 2019 I'm on the fence. Should I keep my K241 in my JD 140 or should I go through with turning our Magnum 14 into a normal K321? The process would involve taking the Magnum 14 internals and putting them into my K321 block, then cutting the mounting ears off. What issues would run into other then the obvious points problem? The Tuul Crib 7,339 #2 Posted October 1, 2019 Is the john deere the one that has the smaller pan on the big block engine?

Magnum 14 has a wide base cut deck with the deep pan. The K321 that the M14 parts are going on is wide base flat deck, so I just have to cut off the mounting ears from the block. The Tuul Crib 7,339 #4 Posted October 1, 2019 Yes I am aware of the different styles of block pans . I just didn't know if John Deere had that or they had the white block pan. I just picked up a 12 horse with that small pan

I just picked up a 12 horse with that small pan I've learned that the narrow base and the wide base flat decks are easiest to fit in earlier deeres, mainly because the engine was originally a narrow base. Nicest part is, the K321 block has a deep pan which will work with the M14 internals. Just need to rob the upgraded points pushrod from my brother's K321 to plug the points hole. Mudrig150 331 #6 Posted October 1, 2019 You know what? Bore the K241 out to a K301, take the M14 internals and put them in the K321 block and put it in my brother's 140.
ZXT 2,401 #7 Posted October 3, 2019 Is there anything wrong with the current K241? If not, I'd probably leave it be. And why convert the magnum to a older style? What's the benefit?

What's the benefit? I like a bit of extra power eventually. 10 hp is barely enough to overcome the parasitic loss of the transmission. You lose about 5-10% of the tractor's 16.5 ft/lb of torque, and when you are running anything else, that's a lot. A k241 has 16.5 ft/lb of torque, a K301 has 22.25 ft/lb, and a K321 has 23.5 ft/lb. Not a lot, but when 5-10%% of that is lost through the hydro, it adds up. What do you mean older style? Points? I'm using the pushrod to block off the hole because the upgraded points pushrod literally can't fall out.
