oil filter would you recommend?

IIRC the 18hp did not have a filter, the 20 & ... 22? did. The hydro does have a filter and with you starting off fresh would be good to do an oil and filter change there also.

First try to adjust the PTO  If it still slips do the 100 hour service of the PTO Shown in the owners manual.

I would remove those hooks or at least move them to the corners. You can bend the center of that bucket. Don't ask me how I know..:bitch:

Not something I have heard of breaking before.  Lincoln at AtoZ can probably fix you up.

so i blew out one of my front tires moving some sand bags. what would you guys recommend for replacement? is there a style that will help make steering easier?

Anything 4-ply would be sufficient.  I scored a good deal on a pair of 18x8.50-8 Kenda turfs from Sears a couple years ago but I cannot say that they'll allow you to steer easier.  You have a heavy front end and no gear reduction or power steering to assist you.

:text-yeahthat:

More ply stiffer sidewalls. Tri Rib tires will help some with steering.

I’m surprised I didn’t see this thread, congrats on the score a while back!  I agree that a ribbed tire will help with steering, along with jacking it up by the frame (or with the bucket?) and giving every moving part in the front end a fresh grease job.  I’m sure reducing friction will be your friend!  If I haven’t said so already, Welcome to Redsquare!

If you don't go tri-rib - try Walmart online

this past summer got a pair of 16 x 16.50 - 8 4 ply front tires from Walmart for around $45 for the pair shipped - and they arrived in good shape so they were relatively easy to mount (were not crushed or folded or whatever)

$39.78    ($ 19.89 per tire)

shipping - free

$2.78 tax

$2.00 merchandise fee

$44.56 total

the 'brand' is Hi-Run ... they look very much like a Titan tire

they are on the front of the 312-8 in pic below
