Please tell me where the other end of the 2 wires go, I put new battery in and was going to spray carb  cleaner to see if engine would start but got no sound when pushed start button and it looks to be wired up. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

It appears that a previous owner has done some rewiring and it will be hard to tell where they go.

If you will tell us what model :wh:  you have we can provide a wiring diagram and help get you headed in the right direction.

Could you show us a picture of the starter button, most :wh: didn't leave the factory with one.

Looks like it should be wired as a model 702. Click on the picture and again on the ones that come up. 702 wiring is there.

Look at the letters on this, is that saying other end should be hooked to battery?

Never seen one marked battery. Usually we see + which just means that is where the source of power is connected. This is what is commonly known as battery style of ignition and guess that is where the Bat came from.

What is on the other small terminal that goes to the points?

Nothing that I can see

The "starter switch" you have is only rated for 20 Amps which is not sufficient for your Starter/Generator. Do you also have a solenoid (pictured below) with a large wire going to the battery and another large wire going to the "A" terminal of the Starter/Generator?

As you know, I know nothing about this but what is the possibility that those two wires should be connected to a on -off switch? ( there not one on it)

No, don’t see any thing like that , nor cables that would use with it.

you might just want to start fresh and rewire the whole machine following the wiring diagram.  some fresh copper and connections to the correct places will keep it going for another 50 years.

You are right,  can you tell me what wire and connections I need to do that with. I was just trying to see if engine would run before I take it apart.

The previous owner had just enough electrical knowledge to be dangerous! You will either want to buy a starter switch rated at 70 amps,

236643?$456$ or add a solenoid. The wires that comes from the battery to ground, and the starter switch, and  from the  starter switch to the "A" terminal of the S/G should all be #6 AWG  (battery cables). You can buy it all at Tractor supply.

If you just want to "hotwire" it to get it running for testing.

Use jumper cables or a battery box and connect the ground clamp to the engine mounting bolt.

For the positive side, clamp that little red wire from the coil which doesn't go anywhere into the positive clamp. Now touch that positive clamp to this terminal marked below on the starter generator. Once the engine starts pull the positive clamp away from touching the starter terminal but leave the little red wire clamped in it.

Spray some gas or carb cleaner in the carb right before touching the starter terminal

my 854 I used stranded 12 ga, THHN, and I have mixed wire connection kit from harbor freight.  the heavy gauge i just matched up at napa.

after a full rewire all my gremlins went away

That's why we're here!

BTW that yellow wire is for accessories like lights or something. You don't need it if you don't have anything to connect to it
