KT17 governor not working

Recommended Posts

Artmilaca

So yeh, I guess Murphy was around in the last couple of weeks.

I went out to start the 417A and it went o max RPM. Dont know all the tech names for stuff so bear with me here.

It appears that the governor shaft that has the spring on it that attaches to the throttle cable is stuck and will not pull off high RPM when started.

Any suggestions before I start tearing things apart to figure it out.

Disconnect the govenor arm from the throttle and the carb, and see if you are able to move the arm. Could be the link to the carb is bent. If not, pull the dip stick and remove the extension tube then look down the oil fill tube at an angle with a flashlight. You should be able to see a portion of the govenor gear. It rides on a pin that allows it to slide with the fly weights. The pin may be bent or the gear just may be stuck. Gently try to get it to move. It's plastic so be careful. If it's damaged it's a full teardown to get to to it. I did a full series of u-tube videos on repairing mine called "lost govenor"
