Sparky-(Admin) 23,284 #1 Posted September 6, 2019 Hauled out my plow tractor for a project and saw bits of straw/grass/leaves sticking out of the motor shroud. What do you think about taping up my coil wire? I have a roll of Scotch 33+ ( $5 a roll electrical tape). 1
953 nut 60,348 #2 Posted September 6, 2019 Not too sure the adhesive would hold up to the engine heat. Should be able to solder in a new wire core plug wire.
Herder 2,355 #3 Posted September 6, 2019 Dang mice. Setup some traps, keep them locked and loaded at all times.

pfrederi 18,714 #9 Posted September 6, 2019 Do not use dryer sheets. i tried them the mouse used it as part of his nest in a C-175. Went to start it, it started to turn over then stopped dead. Dryer sheet got wrapped around the bendix and fly wheel. had to to tow her up to the shop pull all the tins and starter motor. dryer sheets are incredibly strong. yes you can tear them length wise but try cross wise. Had to use an xacto knife needle nose pliers and lot of 4 letter words to get it cleaned out. 1 4

lynnmor 7,858 #13 Posted September 7, 2019 The first pull of my walk behind mower caused blood to run out from the shroud. At least that one will never bother me again.

I'm curious if it has enough insulation to stop the spark from jumping out.

Actually before I realized I had mouse damage I drove the tractor around my yard, up to the street and finally into my garage without any issues. Started right up and ran perfect. So there was no spark jumping even before my quickie repair.

Keeps the mice from making nest in my office swivel chairs. I guess the deer get used to the smell during the off season as it lingers for quite some time after I remove them.
Yossarian 210 #19 Posted September 7, 2019 I used to gopher for the high voltage crew at a large state university. That 33+ is impressive stuff. I wouldn't be surprised if a carefully done job held up for a long time.
JoeM 8,429 #20 Posted September 7, 2019 A black snake works the best. Had one move in at the pole barn......haven't seen a mouse for a while!
Retired Wrencher 5,837 #21 Posted September 7, 2019 Mike I use dry sheets on everything I store out side. Get the cheap ones they really smell mice hate them. When we had the Motorhome that what we used to keep them out.
Pollack Pete 2,273 #22 Posted September 7, 2019 Yup,getting to be that time of year here in upstate NY for those little critters to make a Winter home.Bought a used New Holland L-228 skidsteer this past Summer.I don't want any mouse damage to it.Just was telling the Squaw yesterday that I gotta start setting traps in the pole barn.Have a stray cay hanging around the last couple weeks.I've been feeding him a little cat food hoping he'll stay around. Those damn mice get into EVERYTHING.
keitholdcar 17 #23 Posted September 7, 2019 If these pictures post this is my 73 12 automatic.I used it for the last mowing last fall, then put it in a shed.I needed it two weeks later, and this is what I found. The mice had moved in fast, and used all that fresh grass and the fringe off the comforter I threw over it.I'm used to dealing with mice,as I have a half dozen old cars and some equipment but never saw them move this fast.
PeacemakerJack 10,743 #24 Posted September 9, 2019 This was found in a project tractor that I picked up a couple of weeks ago... I will definitely be pulling the remainder of the shrouding off to verify the space around the flywheel is cleaned out. Those pesky little jerks are very upsetting!
moe1965 766 #25 Posted September 9, 2019 I used a few pieces of shrink wrap for eletric wires. The kind you slip over and heat up with a electric hot gun.
