Ok lads hope you can guide me in the right direction I’ve just bough  a wheelhorse raider 12,8 speed 1974 non runner. I’ve connected a new battery and not so much as a click I managed to cross the starter to get the engine to turn over and it does, but as to where I go next I’m not sure, also I’d appreciate a point in the right direction for parts as I’m in Northern Ireland I’m guessing they will have to be shipped over the pond. Many thanks

James.

Hi and :WRS:

Luckily for you that tractor has a pretty simple electrical system.

Couple things in particular come to mind.

huge issue with a DC electrical system is to make sure that all the grounds are clean and happy.

Also, you should have a couple safety switches 2 take a look at and be sure they are working. One is on the PTO handle and the other one should be on the clutch pedal.

Looks like a good complete :wh:!  The wiring is very simple and the attached manual should be all the guidance you will need. Cleaning and tightening all of your electrical connections may be all that is needed.

If your tractor has an electric clutch on the PTO it should be in the off position and your clutch for the transmission needs to be down.

Looked at the carb tonight and it is green so I assume that it isn’t original but it didn’t seem that dirty on the inside

A cleaning at the electrical System seems reqired.

see a lot of dirt on the solenoid, i guess the rest will look also same.

Groundconnection and Batteryterminals maybe too.

Cleaning with a brassbrush i would recommanded.

After Cleaning, a light Film of Vaseline on the Connectors and Screwterminals

will protect your Contacts after for long term and it prevent oxydation.

Vaseline is non conductive and prevents Water and/or Salt in Winter can harm your Contacts.

But use it carefully, otherwise it give ugly Fat- stains.

Spray some carb cleaner into the carb throat   then crank.. Does it fire or at least pop and stumble.  if so you have spark your problem is the carb or fuel supply.

Do you have spark at the spark plug?

Hello James and welcome.

I'm in north of England and rebuilding a K360 engine.

I'm encountering similar problems to you and just taking them one at a time. I'm trying to find a replacement coil that doesn't cost the earth at present.

Good news she is alive I treated her to a new spark plug and ran the fuel straight into the carb on a gravity system and away she went although il have to check out the exhaust as it was smoking heavily as if blocked by mouse etc so great news now to rebuild replace a few things one thing I notice I’m missing is the choke handle can these be got ??
