If it helps I'll be installing the tie rods so I can steer to roll it out to the tractor lineup for our Meet n Greet.

You mean I could have got a ball joint with a stud on the end that bolts to spindle arm, and female threads on the end that goes on the tie rod ?

 

I’ m gonna need to put a bolt to hold my ends to spindle arms...

 

And to the doo hickey that swings left to right to turn the wheels...

Yessir. McMaster Carr has all kinds of neat and different stuff.

I finished up the other tie rod by cutting off the end to the correct length. 

 

 

Drilled it and tapped it. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I had no 1/2-20 nuts around so I drilled and tapped a couple 7/16 just to keep things tight for the time being.  

 

 

 

Installed both the rods after measuring about 86 times.  

 

 

 

 

And the Colossus beast is a rolling chassis.

Tow-in. Front to back will be at least 1/4". 

 

I also added a bunch of tilt to the spindles when I designed them. 

The tops of the tires are tilted OUT about 1.25 inches compared to the bottom. 

This supposedly gives a better grab to the outside steering tire in turns.

The axle was a home built I lengthened. 

It's around zero.

Yepp. 

See the pic below. 

Use 2 flat objects that can be clamped together. I had metal rulers handy..

 

Hold them halfway up the front of the WHEELS so they just lightly touch each wheel  and clamp them in place. 

Now keeping them clamped see what the distance is from one wheel to the other at the same approximate height at the back of the rim. 

The difference is your toe-in.
