The "Colossus" project

Recommended Posts

It could just be one layout vs the other, or the difference in our engine sizes, I’m not sure.  Some things don’t look the same, some do.  Thanks for the comparison pics EB and/or BBT!  I’ll get to it eventually!  Maybe!

I've mentioned that Trina and her mom are both mechanically inclined. Her mom said something the other day that kind of cracked me up.

She walked by this engine on her way in to let the dog out.

Couple days later she asked Trina, hey I've been meaning to ask you, what's that giant engine in this basement?

Trina says that's the one for Colossus.

Her mom goes oh. OH!! Okay then.

She said something like well that might do it...

EB.  Crazy thing.  Our intakes and exhausts are opposite!  The manifolds, or lack thereof, are totally different too!  Maybe I’d be better off finding a bottom bowl carb that’s the appropriate size and building an intake.  That pipe plug... that’s my exhaust.  My guess is that the exhaust preheats the intake for a reason, to keep the LP from freezing up.  On my propane powered mud truck back in the day, antifreeze passed through the regulator for the same reason.

Trina found me a steering wheel yesterday at work.

I'll take the four posts cross piece out of the middle and install something that's either three or five and has a smaller center.

Absolutely awesome that it's repurposed.

Just about the right size and shape as well.

That's what I thought too but I'll give you a hint.

She was at work. At the hospital. She was headed down through an area where things are set aside for recycling...

I'm open to suggestions for what to do for the spokes here folks.

I'd really rather not weld on to the outer ring. The bottom has holes in it that I think would hold screws but I could also use some sort of clamping mechanism.

You could go a little broader on the outside ends and screw up into the hoop

Unless you need some dish or offset in the steering wheel, I'd be tempted to make an adapter for the hub and use it as is.  It has a no nonsense, industrial, I'm here to work look to it.

I agree with that.

I don't know if I need offset... I don't believe so.
