1999 HXL

Recommended Posts

I recently inherited this 1999 Toro/Wheelhorse  Model HXL 17/44.    My first though when looking at it was to just junk it.   But after playing around with it I've decided to keep it...for now anyway.     This thing sat out side a long time.   But after some tinkering I discovered that it runs and drives well.    Biggest replacement part I need is a new hood  ($577 at Partstree:unsure:) , but most other parts seem to be available.

This is the newest and the first Hydro powered unit i've ever owned....although the hydro transaxle doesn't appear to be serviceable.

ok,,,,im gonna try to get thru this without taking a round...or 1 for the team.....

so,,,heregoes....

many many moons ago,,,,,when i wasnt the old guy and my neoghbor was,,,,,he had an old  big store hydro....but he did somthing ive never forgotten....

he drilled a hole in the hydro unit,,,tapped in a grease fitttting.....and would  shoot several shots of grease in it....his reasoning was....''have you ever seen a tractor die from grease'' ??

never forgot that,,,,,but know this,,,,,i am not a doctor,,,or a chemist ,,,im not a professional....and not implying ,,try this at home,,,,

ok,,,,still have a pulse,,,,,,onward gentlemen

Since we're out of the closet on the HXL, here's one for ya. I beleive it's the first ever 199? HXL ever made. Why?

Zoom in on the last pic on the frame just in front of the foot rest if you can.

"Prototype"

"Not for resale"

Free is always good... :twocents-02cents:

So what's wrong with the hood? If it's just the headlight area - put an LED bar in there and call it a day... Or nothing if not used at night...(At high speed it will help air cool the engine!!! :ychain:)

Its actually broke off where it attaches to the tractor.  I might try a band-aid repair for now...😊4AECAE9C-9633-4B72-927F-E3857378C2B3.jpeg
