D200 ross steering box.

Just purchased a new cam follower but think I bought the wrong size.

Is it a 1/2" or 9/16"?

Can't find this info anywhere.

Don't want to take the tractor apart till I have everything I need.

I have the seller on hold till a can get a definite answer.

Should be 9/16" -- Ive done several and they were all that. Several other tractor Mfgs used this box. Do a search for other brands, Cub, JD, MF, etc -- Brian Miller shows them ---- IF you can get hold of him!

Heres a good post on rebuilding the box....

Just like the thread you liked to is what is contributing to the confusion.

He was rebuilding a Snapper column using a Cub parts kit.

I have yet been able to see any mention of the cam follower size for the D series other than someone thought it was a 9/16".

Is your ball bearing cage/balls good? Probably not, the plastic cage is always toast. The last couple I've done I couldnt find this part -- one day I was prowling TSC and spotted this bearing/cage and scarfed it up -- havent seen one there since.

I have successfully rebuilt 2 boxes with out using the cage/kit. I've only had to replace the bottom bearing, the top one has always been good. If your balls are good, on reassembly mount the box with the open end facing up with every thing else assembled, using heavy grease coat the race well with the gooey grease and gently line the bearings around the race, they should stick well enough to then screw the plug in. Doing this you wont have enough balls to fill the race, this shouldnt make a difference, but I always keep an assortment of balls and I did add (two I think?) extra balls to fill the race.

And, since I couldnt find a 'kit' I had to make my own gaskets...

Oddly enough, the first one I rebuilt I found about 3-4 different sources for these parts, but now......??
