PTO lever handle

Recommended Posts

Is the plastic handle glued on or screwed on? Any tips on getting it off. Machine in question is a 97 416h.

I imagine to remove lever it has to go through hood side cover from the outside.

Thanks

Find an open-end wrench that just fits the round shaft under the handle.  Fit the wrench onto the shaft at the base of the handle and...gently...start tapping on the flat side of the wrench, under the handle.  This should push the handle up and off of the round bar.

Tried both, no go. So I really heated it up and peeled it off. I'm thinking it was epoxied on at some point. Oh well, thanks for the suggestions though.

You were on the right track (heat) but you over did it.  Get a face cloth and soak it in hot water (as hot as you can stand).  Wrap it around the handle and leave it there for 5 minutes.   Soak the cloth again and repeat.  Then try davoman's suggestion or I found that just twisting it will get it off.  Simple physics at work, the coefficient of thermal expansion of plastic is much much greater than steel.  Note, this only works with the molded handles.  The earlier models had a very flimsy (thin) handle and those are impossible to salvage (but cheap to buy new)

This one was not twistable. Had a flat side on shaft to make it stay in one position.
