No Oil Filter?

Recommended Posts

I have a M18QS  Spec 24510  Serial 1624701316    It has the chrome air filter housing but no oil filter.  I thought all series 2 motors had a filter.  Were there 2 versions of the series 2?    What do I have?

The KT17 had a series 1 and 2 and the 2 could come with or without an oil filter.  As far as I know there wasn't a series 1 or 2 on the M18 but it could come with or without a filter too.  If it didn't come with a filter look down below the dipstick tube and the should be a rectanularish block with 2 allen head bolts.  That's where it would go.  It probably has the block off plate cause the way it sits in the tractor would make it next to impossible to get at the filter to change it.  If you want to put one on you'll probably need to find a remote filter assembly off of a Cub Cadet or maybe a Bolens.  Here's the parts diagram.  It shows the block off plate and the spin on filter variations http://www.kohlerenginesparts.com/PartStream/Index#/Kohler_Engine/M18-24510_WHEEL_HORSE_18_HP_(13.4_kW)_SPECS_24500-24682/Oil_Filter_%231_(TP-2233-C)/11163/CATALOGS|~32470
