Hey guys picked up a 96 520H in good condition but didn’t run. Drained the oil and was full of water, pulled the plugs and spun the motor water shot out. Spins very free. What’s my next move? Can it be saved?

I had one of those, and it was saved. A lot depends on the length of time it sat. I put WD and Motor oil in cylinders as well as extra oil. about a quart, in the crank case. I lightly poured oil down the carb while cranking of course with the spark plug wires off. Drained it out, refilled and tried it. It went but smoked. Ran it until warm and another drain and refill.

Best of luck, 50 50 shot.

Definitely worth a shot at..... What oilu said sounds good as any, relatively small cost and labor to try.

I had a single cyl Kohler that water had ran down the carb into cyl and the intake valve was open and filled that including the carb, had to replace the carb but just unstuck the valve and cleaned the rest up. Fired up pretty quickly and ran good with some smoke, let run for a bit and changed the oil  -- its still running today with a little smoke on start up but sure not bad.

Four years ago acquired an Onan CCKB, the oil had enough water to turn it milky, changed the oil ran the engine to operating temperature then shut her down then removed the oil filler cap to let any residual moisture evaporate.

Even after an oil change the oil galleys retain some of the old oil.

People loose outboards all the time once recovered from the depth and drain run fine, outboards use needle bearings on the connecting rods which is more critical than Babbitt bearing shells, Not familiar with your Onan could be using those aluminum connecting rods but at any rate a little bit of fresh water short term wont hurt the engine.
