formariz 12,040 #1 Posted April 14, 2009 Did the 1960 5.5 hp Lauson engines come equipped with an updraft Tillotson with a paper air filter? Does anyone have a good photo of that setup? Thank you everyone
Suburban 550 28 #2 Posted April 14, 2009 Yea Cas, they did come with the tillotson updraft carb. I made a home made air filter setup on mine because the original was missing. I think the reason they used the updraft was because of the solid hoodstand on the 1960 models. A regular carb wouldn't fit because of the solid hoodstand. I don't have a closeup pic but you could go to the picture gallery and check out the pics of my 1960 Suburban 550 posted for me by T-Mo and maybe that could help you out. formariz 12,040 #3 Posted April 14, 2009 Thanks Ray I looked at the photo. Not too clear though, too much glare from all that awesome paint job. :omg:
BPjunk 184 #4 Posted April 14, 2009 Cas, The air filter element was bolted to a special 45 degree adapter on 5.5 Lauson with a Tillotson up draft, it looks just like a common Tecumseh filter to carburetor adapter but it is on a 45 degree slant for clearence.
