Skwerl58 766 #1 Posted August 18, 2019 I noticed some play in the steering shaft on my 414-8, about 1/8 inch . The play seems to be at the shaft from the steering wheel down through the dash panel. How do I go about repairing this issue? Any help is appreciated.
Lee1977 7,232 #2 Posted August 18, 2019 (edited) The fix is a Toro flange bearing No. 6472. You will have to remove the steering wheel and steering shaft. Edited August 18, 2019 by Lee1977

peter lena 9,316 #4 Posted August 18, 2019 two things about this improvement, first is the removal of the wheel roll pin, in addition to lubricating the pin area, you must back up the side of the wheel for impact bounce. what i do is get some help to hold a solid 2x4 between the wheel edge and a wall, to increase your impact force at the roll pin. use a same size small punch and a hammer on the roll pin end, that will start removal. use never seize on reinstall , to insure easy smooth fit. i think the steel 2 bolt 3/4" flanges available on the net , are the way to go, much stronger and cheaper. having done this transition a number of times , these steps make it easier and your results are very solid . this is my own experience , good luck with it, pete 2
